Family run since 2002, we are an easy going and budget friendly hotel conveniently located in the centre of Newport on the Isle of Wight, just off the south coast of England. A great base for all occasions, being nestled just off the high street and perfect any time of the year whether you’re on business, travelling, visiting family and friends or for a short holiday – we’ve got you covered with everything you need.
Newport is the island’s county town so whether you’re travelling to the island for work or for pleasure we are in easy walking distance of shops, popular eateries, nightlife, industrial estates, the courts, council and hospital.
Time for a bit of history…
Built in 1732, this grade II listed building was previously home to the Mayor of Newport and then to a succession of surgeons. Over the centuries it has played a big role in Isle of Wight politics.
In the 1800s it became Warburton’s Hotel and Her Majesty Queen Victoria, who spent most of her time at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, soon issued the hotel a Royal Warrant – the plaque is still above our front door so keep your eyes peeled!
In the 1970s/1980s the hotel and bar was renamed Calvert’s after the family that owned it at the time. Up until the millennium Calverts was well-known and a very popular place to go.
Back to today and the name just stuck (albeit we no longer use the apostrophe)…
Our family have been here since March 2002; we now focus much more on guest accommodation, and a far more quiet and civilized bar, with 30 en-suite bedrooms all decorated and furnished to a high standard with comfy beds, crisp linen, free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV and tea and coffee.
Calvert’s Bar is open daily to both guests and the public and is well-stocked with your favourites with a range of hot and cold drinks, wines, spirits, snacks and barista style coffees.

We take the gravel out of travel
We can organise your car, van or scooter ferry travel at a heavily discounted rate. We’ll help you find suitable pay and display parking nearby. The only thing we can’t do is drive for you.
